Abstract: This article examines the challenges of using language by the mass media in information
dissemination and management of political crisis in Nigeria. It has discussed the various forms
of language manipulation by the mass media pointing out the harm it poses for crisis
management. We suggest that the owners of the mass media who influence news contents for
selfish reasons should desist from the practice and give their organizations a free hand in running
them for the interest of objectivity. We also suggest that journalists on their part should be
guided by the professional ethics in the coverage of issues and they should be mindful of the
language they use to avoid crisis. |
